A male patient, age 6 months old, is brought to the emergency department for vomiting and diarrhea. The child has vomited 8 times in the past 24 hours and has had 4 wet diapers and 6 dirty diapers in the past 24 hours. On exam the child is snuggled with the parent, vital signs are on the monitor, cap refill is 5 seconds and mucous membranes are tacky. 

 

This child weighs 8 kgs.
