A mother comes with her 8-week-old daughter because the baby has been crying for a few hours every day for the last 4 weeks.   The baby looks well when she is not crying and calms down as soon as her mother or father cradles her. It is the second time the mother has sought medical advice for this problem in the last five days.  She is breast fed and feeds well. Her stools are soft and yellowish. The mother admits to being very tired although describes being very happy and would not hurt her baby. The baby’s weight gain and vital signs are normal. Physical examination of the baby is completely normal.

What is the most likely diagnosis at that point and why?
