While descriptions of dizziness can vary or be vague, it is important to distinguish the different forms of dizziness. Vertigo is classically described as a false spinning sensation, where either the room or the patient is spinning. Patients who are off balance or unsteady when standing or walking may be describing disequilibrium. The feeling of nearly fainting or blacking out describes presyncope. Light-headedness is nonspecific, and may come with vague symptomology such as feeling disconnected with the environment.
